Flightgear may be the closest thing to actually strapping yourself in the left seat. This flight simulator rivals commercial software like Microsoft Flight Simulator, delivering beautiful, realistic scenery, lighting, terrain, and flight controls. You can take off and land at more than 20,000 airports worldwide and can take command of dozens of different aircraft including the 1903 Wright plane and military fighter jets. You don’t need a top of the line computer to run the program, but plenty of RAM and a better graphics card will provide better results. Whether you are looking to burn some time flying the open skies, or want to supplement your flight school training, give Flightgear a try.

  10. Is it just me or i this game not smooth running, i fly Typhoons and their not like flying ‘Flight Gear’. This sim is one of the worst around. I recommend ‘YSFLIGHT’, the graphics aren’t perfect but flight on it is realistic.

    I just wanna say that this looks like a crappy game.
    Microsoft Flight Simulator X 2007 is player.
    It is realistic and cool, but the demo sucks.
    The full game will pone this cheap game.
    No offense to anyone here. Its just a mean
    suggestion.

  23. Every time I see a comment on how great FSX is, I want to hurl. That game is the reason for my hair falling out. Flightgear has one huge advantage over FSX… IT WORKS. The lessons and missions that FSX offers aren’t even finished. They should be sued for offering an unfinished product.

    FLIGHTGEAR is the best thing for anyone with a decent computer. You won’t sell me on Microsoft ever again. Pure ripoff.

  28. i downloaded flight gear.it is taking off and flying very good with mouse control.but how to land? i can not locate the air port. auto landing option should be given for the beginners. kindly help. rng.

    i have tried-
    Xplanes 7/8/9
    FS2000
    FS2002
    FS2004
    FSX
    CFS2/3
    YS SIM 2000
    ACES HIGH
    rocket racer

    and out of all of those here it the best
    Xplanes 9
    FSX
    FS2004 and Xplanes 7/8 are tied
    FS2000/2002 are tied
    CFS2/3 are tied
    ACES HIGH
    rocket racer
    YS SIM 2000

  37. A very nice simulator, it makes me remember the good old FS2000. It even have the FS2000 type coastlines, they suck. I need a better graphics card for it (5-17FPS), but at least it’s FUN!
