Avira AntiVir is the best. I've tried McAfee, AVG, Avast!, and a couple of others, but in the end I stuck with Avira. It has definitions that compete with NOD32, and takes very little memory and is easy to set up. You can even disable the nags after each update -- search wikiHow for the article on it.

I simply like Avira. It's interface and simplicity, but I went AVAST! and never looked back. Either way, I give Avira 2 thumbs up. XD

Sadly, there are alot of security products that are resource hogs.
My first question to a friend when they ask me why their puter is so slow, What AntiVirus are you using?
I will check out the Avira products, thanks.

I am an IT professional who has also been an IT instructor for the last 12 years. I have been using Avira AntiVir Personal Edition for years now. I had given up on Symantec's Norton quite some time ago since they began packaging their software into one big bloated mess (e.g., Antivirus, Utilities, Disk Imaging, etc.). Can't stand McAfee. I had sampled a few "free" products and finally settled on Avira. It has a very consistent and simple update process and is very proactive and accurate in catching malware -- viruses, trojans, worms. Streamlined user interface which you rarely even need to access. Great product, highly recommended.
