Valentine's Day is coming soon. Remember gradeschool, when you got to make Valentine's cards for everyone in your class (and even had to give one to the kid that you really didn't like?) Giving Valentine's cards isn't just for kids — just about everyone appreciates getting a silly, cute, fun card on Valentine's Day.

FreePrintableValentines.net makes giving Valentines easy. The site offers 50 Valentine's Day card designs in PDF format, which you can download and print for free. The site includes cards for sweethearts, friends, children, and even (who knew there was a need for this?) Valentines for robots.

So you can print out 40 copies of your favorite card and give one to everyone in your workplace. Even the folks that you don't like that much.

Send a Fax Free

FaxZero.com

Need to send a fax from your PC? FaxZero lets you send faxes from your computer to any fax machine in the U.S., Canada, or Puerto Rico, for free. The free service is cool, but there's also a $1.99 "premium" service that's worth considering.

The free service lets you send up to two faxes per day, of up to 3 pages each (plus the FaxZero cover sheet.) The cover sheet of free faxes includes a 1/2-page advertisement. You can fax a Microsoft Word (.DOC) file, Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) file, or plain text.

The $1.99 service eliminates the cover page ad, which makes it a better choice for business communications, faxing a resume, etc. The maximum page count increases to 15 pages, and there's no two-fax-per-day limit. You can pay with your PayPal account or a credit card.

Either way, there are no subscription fees, and no need to sign up or subscribe — it's just a very fast way to send faxes from your computer, without the hassle of printing it out and driving to use the copy shop's overpriced fax machine.

Hurricane Katrina: Donate to the Red Cross

We at Free Download A Day hope that our readers, your loved ones and everyone else in the Gulf Coast region are all right during this extraordinarily severe storm. Our thoughts are with you.

Second, if you'd like to help the displaced, please donate cash to the Red Cross. Cash — as opposed to canned goods and other tangible items — is the most efficient resource for the Red Cross at the moment, and every bit helps. Even $5 can buy someone a meal or two. You can donate cash online via the Red Cross web site, or by phone at 1-800-HELP-NOW (1-800-435-7669).
