There's a first time for everything. First bicycle. First kiss. First web page. You're on your own with those first two, but when it comes to that first adventure in HTML, we may be able to give you a hand. Or at least to point you toward Web Design Toy.

Web Design Toy is an application that would be right at home on your machine as you learn the ins and outs of Hypertext Markup Language, good old HTML. Its interface is simple: two panes in a single window. Type your code, complete with markup, into the pane on the left, and it will immediately show you how that code is rendered by a browser in the right-hand pane. It works for simple stuff, like bold and italic type, as well as more complex stuff like lists and tables. It even understands stylesheets, so you can try out your CSS skills in the privacy of your own home or office.

A free download, Web Design Toy is a Windows application. It should run on any system under Windows 95 or later, and since it's a single executable, it would be ideal to load onto a USB drive to bring along to class as well.
