Usually when you're working with your computer, you want to see what's happening on the screen. After all, it's not so easy to edit that Word DOC if you can't read it. Image editing is tricky too if you can't see what's on the screen. Sometimes, though, you aren't so interested in what's happening on screen. Like if you're using your system to play music. Nobody really cares what iTunes looks like once you've got your six hour playlist started up. So let's turn off the display.

Turn Off LCD may be the most accurately named application ever. It has only one purpose in life: to turn off your display. It's not doing anything terribly exotic, just using a Windows DLL in a very specific way. No more power drain on your laptop when you're not interested in what's on the screen anyway.

Turn Off LCD is a free download. It's a Windows application and runs under XP and later. It requires ver. 2.0 of the Microsoft .NET Framework.
